Nice Radio

Received the radio today. Was able to input needed tones for reaching two repeaters. Power and talking distance seems adequate.

I bought four of these for family. I was able to download the software from Retevis and used my Baofeng programming cable to set the radios up with several local repeaters. I also changed the frequencies to names and put my call sign in as a power on message. Obviously, because the radios are compliant with FCC GMRS regulations, you can't operate the FRS/GMRS shared frequencies on the full 5 watts, so channels 8-14 are low power. I wasn't able to change frequencies to wide from narrow either. I had difficulty with the weather station programming when it came to putting it on one of the short or long key functions, so I just set the side button up for monitor and scan. I found a workaround for getting a weather channel. If you long press the menu key on the keypad for a couple seconds you will put it in frequency mode. You can manually type in the local weather channel on the keypad (mine is 162.4000) and you can listen to the NOAA report. When your done just long press the menu button again and go back to channel mode. None of the minor issues are a deal breaker, and I'm happy with the purchase and the radios function great. They are built tough enough for their purpose. I have bought several other Retevis radios and the company is starting to make a niche for themselves in this market. Quality with a decent price. I'm sure the bugs will be worked out as they continue to grow.

My RT76Ps are sturdy and inexpensive. They have numerous features and options. The Retevis customer service is very good. I bought two and plan to buy another.

You get what you pay for

The radio is physically well built and the GMRS channels work well. Audio is clear (as other users report to me). However, the weather (WX) channels do not work. This is a well-documented issue (search the Internet) for many RT76P owners to which Retevis has not addressed. If you need or want to receive NOAA weather channels, you may want to consider a radio from a different vendor. My package was missing the charging adapter when delivered. I also own a Btech V1 GMRS radio and I think it is superior to the Retevis RT76P, but it also cost twice as much. $58 for the Btech versus $29 for the Retevis.

I've been using these radio now for a couple of weeks and I am quite pleased with them. The build is heavy-duty commercial quality. These radios can be programmed for full the legal GMRS handie-talkie power of 5W, which will give quite better range than FRS. The radio supports 30 channels - which can be programmed using the downloadable CPS software to any GMRS frequency and combination of CTCSS of DCS codes. Most importantly - these radios support split-mode RX and TX frequencies - which is needed to make use of GMRS repeaters. A welcome feature is the display - which can display frequency or or a text label for the channel you are tuned to. Extra features are the ability to monitor VHF/UHF frequencies, as well as FM broadcast and US government weather station channels. When programming a channel you can set the TX power level as well as the bandwidth (wide or narrow). On my RT76P's - I have setup channels 23-30 for split-mode (different RX and TX frequencies) used with the GMRS repeaters here in Albuquerque, NM (USA), and the rest are set to simplex GMRS frequencies. You can't go wrong with these radios - they work well and will stand up to rough usage. Be sure to obtain an FCC GMRS license before using. Well recommended.

GREAT GMRS HT

I have been testing the Retevis RT76P for the last couple of days and comparing it to the Btech v1 gmrs ht. Although the btech v1 can be programmed via the keypad the Retevis RT76P can easily be programmed on a computer using the online software (found in Retevis support). AND NO IT DOES NOT REQUIRE A PASSWORD !! i was even able to use an old baofeng programming cable that i had laying around. The Retevis RT76P out performs the BTECH V1 in both transmit distance and receive sensitivity. Overall i am very impressed with this radio's capabilities and value, and the best part is that the Retevis RT76P is legal to use on gmrs !!!

It seems that Retevis knows always how to satisfied there customers with the right radio for each ocation,Amateur, license free radios, comercial radios,marine floating radios and now they bring a very important radio to the market i would love to review and test this radio to see how good it is. as a seller of the RT-6 i hope it is that great.
