I am new to amateur radio. I bought this radio to start working on my amateur license. Radio has a lot of useful features. Although I am not totally familiar with all of the features I am learning as I go along.

These are sturdy radios with a lot of go and value. Just don't be delusional about what to expect for under $100 as opposed to $400.
My only problem with this model is that it only operates on the UHF band and not the VHF (commonly used for marine frequencies.)

It also feels nice in the hand. For my tastes, it's perfect.
It's not super-feature-packed, so if a kazillion features is what you're after, look elsewhere. What additional features it does have--those work well. You can expect to like them.

Higher output power then a standard ham 4 watts low power, 10 watts on high, which is needed on UHF frequencies. I like the larger whip antenna for higher gain!! Software works good on Windows 10.Audio quality is fair to good.
